The “Rear Driveshaft Loop/Frame Stiffener” is more than just a driveshaft loop. It is also designed to strengthen the region of the frame where the front leaf spring eye bolts attach. Slightly rearward of this point, there is a factory crossmember at the top of the frame. The “Driveshaft Loop/Frame Stiffener” crossbar acts as a crossmember at the bottom of the frame. It attaches to and utilizes the same mounting locations as the top factory crossmember, essentially boxing the right and left side of the frame together, thereby increasing strength and rigidity.
The “Rear Driveshaft Loop/Frame Stiffener” also works in concert with the x-brace. The idea is to get the power to the ground, and not be absorbed by chassis flex and distortion of the frame under load. This in turn will improve straight line and handling performance. The “Rear Driveshaft Loop/Frame Stiffener” is, in essence, an extra frame stiffening brace.
All driveshaft loops are designed within NHRA guidelines: 1) they have 360-degrees of enclosure; 2) they are within 6-inches of the universal joint; and 3) they exceed the minimum requirements of 7/8-inch x .065-inch welded steel tubing by using 1-inch x .109-.120-inch steel tubing.
